Using the TLS database.

You will find a general description of the contents of the TLS database under "About TLS" above.

The easiest way to access TLS is by using "Basic Search." Click on "Basic Search" in the menu above, then choose whether you wish to search for a Chinese or an English expression and what you wish to search for – a word, a synonym, a passage in a text or a translation, etc.

If you wish to explore TLS in greater depth, choose a file to search in from "Select File" above. This menu gives access to each of the many points of entry into TLS. After you have chosen a file to search in, you will perform a Standard Search, unless you choose to perform a Complex Search. Complex Search search opens up for searches in more fields and allows you to sort the results.

Once you have chosen a file to search in, you can read the help pages for the file in question by clicking "Help for …." If you wish to see a representative sample of the contents of the file you have chosen, click "Sample Record." A general description of how to search the database is given in "How To Search."

You can also access TLS by first choosing a text from a list. Click "Select Text" and find a text you are interested in. By clicking on "Go to this text," you will be shown the TLS translation of the text in question, with annotations and links to other files in the database.

You can return to the TLS home page by clicking on the TLS logo above.
