1 猶彼外道。 It is like those dissenters:
2 聞佛善語, when they hear the good talk of the Buddha,
3 盜竊而用, they steal it and use it,
4 以為己有。 and the consider it to be their own.
5 乃至傍人教使修行, When it comes to the point where a third person tells them to to put these things into practice,
6 不肯修行, they refuse to put it into practice
7 而作是言: and make the following speech:
8 「為利養故 "For concrete benefit
9 取彼佛語 I choose what the Buddha said
10 化導眾生。 to transform and guide all living creatures,
11 而無實事。 but since this does not correspond to reality
12 云何修行?」 how could I cultivate it?" (cf. Schlegel: have you ever seen a signpost move in the direction it shows?)
