Lexeme Entries - General Description

Lexeme Entries specify one meaning or usage of a given word, and they are the constituent parts of what one might call the "dictionary entry" in TLS. At the time of writing, TLS contains 38 160 such Lexeme Entries in all.

Technically, a Lexeme Entry consists of the following elements:

1. A Lexeme, which specifies a Lexeme Representation under a certain Synonym Group;

2. A Syntactic Category which specifies whether the Lexeme Entry is a noun, verb, particle, or else.

3. Semantic Categories, where desirable, which specify which of the open set of distinctive semantic features like "plural", "generic", "inchoative" the examples of this Lexeme Entry are stipulated characteristically to have.
